Ángel Badillo Matos

Ángel Badillo, PhD, is Senior Fellow on Spanish Language and Culture at the Elcano Royal Institute (since 2013), research fellow of the Iberoamerican Institute of the University of Salamanca (since 2005) and faculty member of the Social Sciences School and the Global Governance PhD program of the University of Salamanca (since 2007).

He has been a visiting researcher at Paris 8 and 13 Universities, Université de Québec à Montréal (UQàM, Canada), University of Southern California (USA), UNAM (Mexico), and Universidad Nacional de Quilmes (Argentina), among others, and has worked as a consultant for public and private institutions such as Freedom House.

He served as president of the Latin Union of Political Economy of Information, Communication and Culture (ULEPICC) and director of the Communication Policy and Structure section of the Spanish national Association for Communication Research (AE-IC).

He holds a PhD and a master’s degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has also been a Lecturer at Syracuse University, has taught in several master’s and doctorate programmes, and co-directed the MBA in Cultural Institutions and Enterprises at Santillana Formación (Prisa Group).

Research areas

His research areas are focused on the study of soft power, cultural diplomacy, industrial and cultural policies from the perspective of the political economy of information, communication and culture, and the transformations of culture in the context of digital convergence. His works have appeared in numerous monographs, professional and scientific journals.
